Shantir Bazar, November 21: The World Fisheries Day was celebrated on Tuesday at the Mukut Auditorium in Shantir Bazar. The event organized by the state fisheries department was inaugurated by Shuklacharan Noatia, the minister of Cooperation and the MLA of Jolaibari constituency.
The event was also attended by Sapna Majumder, the MLA of Rajnagar constituency, Kakali Das Dutta, the President of the South Zilla Parishad; Bhibishan Chandra Das, the Vice-President of the Zilla Parishad; Sapna Baidya, the Chairperson of the Shantir Bazar Municipal Council, and several others. Fish farmers from different parts of the state were also honored during the event for their achievements in various areas of fish farming.
During his speech, Noatia said that the central government, the state government, and the state fisheries department are working together to make the entire state self-sufficient in fish production. Noatia added that a fish farmer who was present at the event was earlier employed as a teacher and has now joined fish farming due to the increase in income from fish farming. This shows that fish farming can help to increase fish production and reduce unemployment.
