Wife’s illicit affair leads to forest officer’s murder

Teliamura, July 21: Preliminary police investigations in the murder case of Forest Department Beat Officer Kinkar Debnath have revealed that the deceased was killed by his wife and her lover.

On Saturday evening, the police detained Kinkar Debnath’s wife, Purnima Debnath, and Kinkar’s friend, Amit Ghosh, for questioning. During intense interrogation by a Crime Branch team from Khowai at Teliamura police station, Purnima reportedly broke down and confessed to the murder, implicating her lover in the crime.

Purnima revealed that Kinkar Debnath’s old residence was in the Maharani Pur area under Teliamura police station. Recently, he built a new house in the Shishubihar Chowmuni area under the same police station. The construction work was overseen by his promoter friend, Amit Ghosh. During this time, an illicit relationship developed between Purnima and Amit.

On the night of the murder, Purnima reportedly fed Kinkar four sleeping pills, rendering him unconscious. She and Amit then strangled the sleeping Kinkar with a towel. Later that night, they disposed of his body in the Pulinpur area. The body of the forest officer, identified was found on the roadside at the Pulinpur area near Assam Agartala National Highway on Friday morning.
