The Assam Rifles rescued a Manipur police team which was ambushed by armed men on a highway in Tengnoupal district in Manipur. Videos of the rescue operation, which took place on October 31, showed Assam Rifles troops rescuing policemen pinned down by heavy firing by armed militants from the hill above.
The police team was sent as a reinforcement after a cop, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chingtham Anand Kumar, was shot dead by a sniper in Moreh on October 31.
However, the police team was ambushed by militants who were hiding in the hills at a border town near Sinam along Imphal-Moreh National Highway-102 in Tengnoupal district.Videos showed a group of Assam Rifles commandos, moving slowly in their armoured vehicle, rescuing the Manipur police officials who were hiding from the gunfire from the hill.
Three cops were injured and were taken to the hospital by the Assam Rifles commandos.Manipur has been witnessing ethnic clashes since May 3 between the majority Meitei community, concentrated in the Imphal valley, and the Kukis occupying the hills.
