Vishnu Deo Sai Takes the Helm as Chhattisgarh’s New Chief Minister: BJP’s Strategic Move Unveiled

Raipur, December 10, 2023: In a decisive move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Vishnu Deo Sai, the former Chhattisgarh BJP president, as the new Chief Minister of the state. The announcement follows a period of intense speculation and deliberation within the party, which emerged victorious in Chhattisgarh, countering earlier exit polls that predicted a closely contested battle with the Congress.

Vishnu Deo Sai, considered among the frontrunners for the position, will become the first tribal Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. His name had been frequently mentioned alongside that of former Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Serving as the state president of the BJP from 2020 to 2022, Vishnu Deo Sai brings with him a wealth of political experience. He held the position of Union Minister of State for Steel during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first term and served as the Lok Sabha member representing Chhattisgarh’s Raipur constituency. Additionally, Sai is a member of the BJP’s national working committee.

Following the formation of the Congress government in 2018, the BJP underwent organizational changes, appointing Vishnu Deo Sai as the state president. In 2022, Arun Sao took over as the party’s state unit chief.

“Vishnu Deo Sai has been unanimously chosen as the leader of the legislative assembly… We will take the state forward under his leadership… We fulfill the responsibilities decided by the party. Giving our 100 per cent, under the leadership of Vishnu Deo Sai, we will take the state to new heights,” stated BJP leader OP Chaudhary to ANI.

Commencing his political journey as a panchayat leader, Sai later served as a member of the Madhya Pradesh assembly between 1990 and 1998. In 1999, he secured a seat in the 13th Lok Sabha and continued to be re-elected in subsequent Lok Sabha terms from Raipur.

With his appointment as Chief Minister, the BJP strategically eyes the significant tribal vote bank in the state, laying the groundwork for the 2024 general elections.

In the recent Chhattisgarh assembly elections, Sai secured victory in the Kunkuri Tribal seat with a substantial margin of over 25,000 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party clinched 54 seats in Chhattisgarh, while the Congress lagged behind with only 35 seats. As Vishnu Deo Sai takes charge, all eyes are on the trajectory he will set for the state under his leadership.
