Uttar Pradesh, June 25: In a decisive move aimed at curbing rampant exam malpractice, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved an ordinance on Tuesday to crack down on paper leaks and unfair examination practices. This development comes amidst escalating concerns over recent incidents of question paper leaks and allegations of irregularities in various entrance exams.
The ordinance, set to be presented in the upcoming session of the state legislative assembly, carries stringent penalties for offenders involved in exam malpractice. Under its provisions, individuals found guilty of leaking exam papers could face up to life imprisonment along with hefty fines, potentially reaching up to Rs 1 crore.
Recent controversies surrounding exams like the UGC-NET and NEET-UG, both marred by allegations of paper leaks, have sparked widespread outrage and prompted urgent legislative action. Additionally, two recent entrance exams were postponed within the past week due to similar concerns.
The ordinance also targets “solver gangs” – groups notorious for orchestrating paper leaks and providing proxy candidates to take exams. It mandates that the costs incurred due to any such malpractice during exams will be recovered from these gangs.
Furthermore, the ordinance imposes lifetime blacklisting for companies and service providers implicated in facilitating exam malpractices, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of examinations across the state.
This legislative response follows significant disruptions in recent exams, including the cancellation of the UPPSC RO ARO and UP Police constable exams earlier this year due to confirmed paper leaks. The Uttar Pradesh government’s proactive measures signal a robust effort to restore public trust and uphold the sanctity of academic evaluations amidst ongoing challenges.
