Tripura Transport Department Launches Cashless Service!

Agartala Nov 07: Minister for Transport and Tourism, Shri. Sushanta Choudhury on Tuesday inaugurated cashless transaction system in all the eight district transport offices of the state from the conference hall at Civil Secretariat through a virtual mode.

Addressing the press, the minister said, “Recently, the West Tripura District Transport Office in collaboration with State Bank of India, launched the digital transaction system on an experimental basis. Similarly, the cashless transaction system was piloted in all the district transport offices from August 2023. With huge response seen from the initiative, the cashless transaction system has been officially launched across the state”.

Such cashless mode of transaction will provide multiple benefits. People can take advantage of this cashless system through UPI system and POS machines in every district transport office. Besides, the entire system will ensure transparency in working of the department, said Sushanta Choudhury.

Talking about the revenue generated through the department, Choudhury said, “Despite lack of cashless transaction services in the financial year 2022-23, the transport department has collected over Rs 115 crore revenue”.

Targeting to collect a larger revenue of Rs 125 crore in the FY 2023-24, the revenue collection statistics of the department has seen a marginal improvement, he said.

“In the fiscal year 2022-23, a total of Rs 115.63 crore was deposited in the state transport department. Rs 89.93 crore in 2020-21, Rs 97.14 crore in 2021-22 and Rs 97.14 crore in 2019-20. In the current financial year till October, Rs 73.77crore revenue has already been collected”, said the minister.

Choudhury hoped that by getting out of the old system by changing the system in compliance with advancement in technology, the state and country as a whole will progress further.

Transport Department Secretary UK Chakma, Additional Secretary Transport Department Subrata Chowdhury, Deputy Secretary of Transport Department Maitri Debnath among others remained present at the program.
