Tripura Police detains Wanted Narcotic Dealers; recovers stolen Bikes

Agartala, July 20: Police personnel from East Agartala Police Station apprehended two wanted drug smugglers on Friday evening in the College Tilla area of the capital city. The suspects had been absconding for a long time, evading numerous charges under the NDPS Act.

Officer-in-Charge Rana Chatterjee of East Police Station provided details to reporters, stating, “Police were in search of both the suspects, accused of numerous cases under NDPS Act for a long time. Finally, yesterday evening, acting on a tip-off we successfully nabbed both of them from College Tilla area.” The detainees, identified as Arjun Debnath, a resident of Pratapgarh area, and Raja Saha, a resident of Melaghar area, were produced before the court on Saturday seeking police remand for further interrogation. A vehicle used for drug smuggling was also seized from Raja Saha’s possession.

In a separate operation, police from West Agartala Police Station recovered two stolen bikes and arrested a thief involved in a bike-theft racket from the Office Lane area on Friday evening. Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das reported, “Investigating a theft case registered at West Agartala Police Station bearing Case No 73/2024, police recovered a numberless Hero Honda 200 R bike from Jaipur area and also arrested two thieves, including one Bangladeshi national; Arijit Hossain and another named Alamgir Miya.”

Further investigation led to the detention of another suspected thief, Sabbir Mallik, a resident of Nayabadi in Jirania, on Friday evening. “We received information from secret sources mentioning that Sabbir had arrived at the Office Lane area for stealing bikes. Accordingly, we reached the spot and arrested him,” stated OC Das. Interrogating the detained person, police succeeded in recovering two more stolen bikes numbered TR01U8650 and TR01AA6646.

The police are continuing to investigate the case to identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in the bike-theft racket.
