Bishalgarh, Jan 09: A violent clash between two groups of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS clash) has sent shockwaves through Bishalgarh, leading to widespread tension in the town. The conflict, which erupted on Wednesday night, culminated in an aggressive rally by motor workers on Thursday, demanding swift action from the authorities.

Led by BMS district secretary Raju Das, the rally saw a large number of motor workers converging at the Bishalgarh police station. They submitted a deputation calling for action against Sajal Deb, a prominent state committee member of BMS, who has become the focal point of the dispute. However, Deb, a resident of Ambagan, strongly countered the allegations, claiming that his home had been attacked the previous night. He, too, demanded that the police take action against those responsible for the assault.

A Violent Clash Ignites Tensions

The clash between the two BMS factions reportedly left several individuals injured and has raised serious questions about the police’s role during the chaos. According to sources, the trouble began earlier in the day when Sajal Deb’s brother, Binoy Deb, faced obstruction while trying to refuel his auto-rickshaw with CNG. Allegedly, Raju Das, the district secretary, and some of his associates were behind the interference, sparking an argument. Sajal Deb has accused Das of orchestrating the obstruction, but Das and his supporters vehemently denied the charges, accusing Sajal of exploiting his position within the BMS to intimidate and harass motor workers.

Accusations of Vandalism and Retaliation

The situation escalated further when allegations surfaced that Sajal Deb, along with his brother Binoy and a few others, vandalized the BMS office at Bishalgarh motor stand. The vandalism, reportedly triggered by the CNG obstruction, further intensified the hostilities. Das and his supporters claim that the incident was a calculated move by Sajal to exert his influence. However, Sajal denied any involvement in the destruction of the office.

The dispute took a violent turn when Raju Das, along with a few others, visited Sajal Deb’s residence in Ambagan on Wednesday night to confront him about the vandalism. According to Das, the group was attacked by Sajal and his brothers, who allegedly caused significant damage to their vehicle. As word of the assault spread, more BMS activists from nearby areas rushed to Ambagan to retaliate. This led to a violent confrontation at Deb’s residence, with Deb claiming that it was a planned attack orchestrated by Raju Das and his group.

Injuries and Escalating Violence

The retaliatory attack left Sajal Deb and three members of his family injured. They were rushed to Bishalgarh Hospital, with two of the victims later transferred to Agartala for advanced medical treatment. Meanwhile, Raju Das and his associates have denied any involvement in orchestrating the attack, further complicating the situation.

In an attempt to de-escalate tensions, Nabadal Banik and his supporters visited both the hospital and Sajal Deb’s residence to assess the situation. The news reached Sushanta Deb, the local MLA, who was in Agartala at the time. Concerned by the rising violence, the MLA rushed to Ambagan, where his presence helped ease tensions, at least temporarily.
