Unakoti, November 25: Responding to the urgent call for action from civic leaders and the municipality, various social clubs, NGOs, and volunteers gathered to kickstart a massive cleaning drive of one of the significant ponds of Kailashahar on Saturday. Over 400 volunteers from social organizations like the Lions club, Lio club, BSF, B.Fit and Fit Adarsh, Go-Green and several others engaged in the initiative of restoring the neglected Kakchand pond of the town.
Officials, including Municipality Chairperson Chapla Rani Debroy, SDM, Pradip Kumar and Additional SDM, Nabakumar Jamatia, along with other notable personalities, were present during the commencement of this community-driven endeavor. The efforts aim to not only cleanse the historic pond but also revive the city’s cultural legacy and encourage civic responsibility among its inhabitants, said Debroy. She added that thirty percent of the pond has already been cleaned by local volunteers without any government funds and such an act has set an example for the entire state.
The historic pond was earlier littered with a huge amount of garbage which is finally being cleaned, a volunteer said.
