Railways loses Rs 1.22 crore as 20,000 tickets cancelled due to train delays

Moradabad, January 06: Amidst the ongoing cold wave conditions in Northern India with dense fog covering several states, the Indian Railways’s Moradabad Division has recorded the cancellation of as many as 20,000 reserved tickets in December 2023. According to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Moradabad Division, Raj Kumar Singh, nearly Rs 1.22 crore has been returned to passengers who cancelled their tickets.

Speaking to TUK, Singh further added that out of the total cancelled reserved tickets, 4,230 were cancelled in Bareilly, 3,239 tickets were cancelled in Moradabad, 3917 tickets were cancelled in Haridwar, and 2,448 were cancelled in Dehradun, amongst others.

“We cancelled those trains that had low occupancy due to foggy conditions. Even then, 20,000 tickets were cancelled in the Moradabad Division in December 2023…” Singh said.”42 trains have been cancelled till March. We have also refunded Rs 1.22 crore to people,” he added.Notably, North India has been under the grip of dense fog and cold wave conditions.

In parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan, dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to persist for several hours during the night and morning till January 6.
