In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed concerns about the lack of infrastructure development in Nagaland and the overall neglect of northeastern states. During a public rally on the third day of the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Nagaland, Gandhi directly addressed the Prime Minister, questioning his claims of development.
Gandhi challenged PM Modi, stating, “Your tall claims of development demand firsthand experience. Have you braved the broken roads that Nagaland’s people navigate daily?” He emphasized the injustice faced by the people of Nagaland who have to contend with poor road conditions, insufficient access to electricity, and a lack of medical infrastructure.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the region, Gandhi expressed concern about the impact on the youth’s future, saying, “How are we expected to bring a positive future to the young people of Nagaland with these roads?”
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, launched on January 14 from Manipur’s Thoubal district, aims to draw attention to the issues faced by people in Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, and other states not partaking in mainstream development. Gandhi stressed the importance of ensuring equality and justice for all citizens, regardless of the size of their state.
The yatra, covering 15 states and 100 Lok Sabha seats, will span over 6,700 kilometers in 67 days, passing through 110 districts. Starting in the northeastern states, it will traverse the north and central regions, concluding in Maharashtra on March 20.
