In 2016, he went to Himachal Pradesh to meet soldiers near the China border and held interactions with the men in uniform from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Dogra Scouts, and the army at Sumdoh. In 2017, the PM went to the Gurez sector in North Kashmir, in 2018 he spent Diwali in Uttarakhand’s Harsil where he paid a surprise visit to troops, in 2019 he visited the soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, and in 2020, he was at the border post of Longewala. In 2021, he celebrated the festival of lights in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nowshera. Last year, Modi celebrated Diwali with soldiers in Kargil.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, PM Modi extended his wishes to people on the occasion of Diwali. “Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali! May this special festival bring joy, prosperity and wonderful health to everyone’s lives,” he wrote in a post on X.Notably, Diwali is observed on Amavasya (or the new moon), the 15th day of the month of Kartik, every year. The festival – also known as the ‘festival of lights’ – is the symbol of the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
