PM Modi Hails Republic Day, Targets Opposition in Parliament Address

New Delhi, February 05, 2024: In a fiery speech on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Parliament in response to the President’s address. While praising the recent Republic Day celebrations and the newly inaugurated Parliament building, he launched a scathing attack on the opposition, particularly the Congress party.

PM Modi began by expressing his admiration for the “impressive” and “inspiring” 75th Republic Day celebrations, specifically highlighting the grandeur of the new Parliament building. He described it as a symbol of India’s progress and a testament to its democratic values.

He proudly acknowledged the new tradition of the mace (Sengol) leading the President’s address procession. This act, according to PM Modi, reflected the strength and stability of Indian democracy, evoking a sense of national pride.

The Prime Minister then shifted gears, launching a sharp attack on the opposition, particularly the Congress party. He suggested that they had lost the “courage to contest elections,” possibly due to recent defeats. He pointed towards potential seat changes within the opposition and a preference for the Rajya Sabha (indirectly elected) over the Lok Sabha (directly elected), implying a focus on political maneuvering rather than genuine ambition to serve the people.

Despite the strong criticism, PM Modi concluded his speech by reiterating his ambitious promise of making India the third largest economic power in the world during his potential third term. This statement aimed to shift the focus towards building a stronger future for the nation.

The Prime Minister’s speech has sparked diverse reactions. Supporters lauded his praise for national achievements and his focus on India’s economic future. Critics, however, condemned his attack on the opposition, calling it undemocratic and potentially divisive.
