Online yellow collar journalist Saikat Talapatra arrested by Tripura police’s crime branch , brought to Agartala and being produced in court today.
Tripura’s online yellow journalist Saikat Talapatra who had been continuing a filthy campaign of vilification against many political personalities including the chief minister Dr Manik Saha, his elder brother and leading businessman Ratan Saha and the businessman younger brother Tapan Saha through his ‘Facebook ‘ and ‘Youtube’ account was arrested by a special team of state police’s crime branch at 3:00 AM this morning from his hideout in a rented house at Muragachha area beside the Barasat road near New Town of Calcutta under north twenty four parganas district. He was brought to Agartala by air from Calcutta by the crime branch team around 10:20 AM in the morning and kept waiting at the NCC police station near the state secretariat for being produced in court . Sources in the police said that a remand will be sought for Saikat Talapatra in the court for interrogation.
Sources in the state police said that a lot of cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) are being registered for baselessly defaming a number of important political personalities including `the incumbent chief minister Dr Manik Saha, his brothers Ratan Saha, Tapan Saha, former chief minister Manik Sarkar, other ministers including Ratan Lal Nath, ‘Tipra Motha’ chief Pradyot Kishore, former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and a lot of other VIPs. Sources said that the crime branch and Cyber Cell of state police had been tracking Saikat Talapatra’s movement and whereabouts for a long time under the guidance of a high official of state police having close links with the CBI. After being sure of Saikat’s whereabouts the crime branch team of Tripura police had left for Calcutta and with help from officers of Ghola police station under north twenty four parganas they picked up Saikat from Muragachha area near Barasat , New Town area. “He used to live in different houses from night to night fearing police action but last night he was pinned down in his rented house at Muragachha area.
Sources said that a group of advocates , political elements of the ruling party had been in league with Saikat Talapatra who also used to blackmail people for money and other benefits . Police sources said that a foolproof charge-sheet will be filed against blackmailer and ‘digital terrorist’, as described by a news channel, Saikat Talapatra. One particular advocate who is supposedly close to Saikat is likely to stand for him in court today by the police is keeping watch over all people sympathetic to him. The police will seek a police remand for him for the purpose of interrogation.
Meanwhile, Ratan Saha, elder brother to chief minister Dr Manik Saha and a victim of Saikat’s vilification campaign , is coming here tomorrow from Calcutta to file another FIR against Saikat Talapatra to strengthen the case against him. Interestingly, Saikat Talapatra had once been a full time teacher of the Tripura government but lost his job for dereliction of duty. He turned to journalism with a stint in now-shut down ‘NE India’ channel and then worked for some time in the local ‘Awaz’ channel of once leading mafia Mona Das but then he gradually opened his ‘Facebook’ and ‘Youtube’ channels to carry on his yellow journalism in the form of vilification campaign against leading political personalities of the state and blackmail people into paying him handsome amounts of money.
