Agartala, Jan 05: Minister Tinku Roy inaugurated the much-anticipated 10th International Universal Expo Fair at Agartala Children’s Park on Sunday, emphasizing Tripura’s strides in trade and local production.

In his inaugural speech, Roy highlighted the remarkable improvement in Tripura’s import-export balance with Bangladesh. He noted that during the 2018-19 financial year, imports stood at approximately Rs. 450 crore compared to a mere ₹6 crore in exports. “Today, we are exporting goods worth around Rs. 250 crore, reflecting Tripura’s progress in industrial and agricultural production,” Roy stated.

The minister lauded the efforts of self-help groups in driving this growth, producing a wide range of goods that contribute to the state’s economy. He urged local entrepreneurs to establish robust market chains and collaborate with external partners to enhance the reach of Tripura’s products in global markets.

Roy also highlighted the state’s flourishing Agarwood export projects and stressed the need to focus on bamboo-based products. He advocated prioritizing locally produced bamboo goods over imports, underlining their potential to boost the state’s economy.
