Agartala, Dec 05: With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept in three Hindi heartlands of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh – and the Congress set its dominant foot in Telangana, the former Chief Minister and the CPI(M) Politburo member Manik Sarkar on Tuesday expressed his doubt over the role of the INDIA alliance.
“The BJP took the advantage out of the inactiveness of the INDIA alliance which was mainly formed to fight collectively and defeat BJP to save the nation,” Sarkar said.
Sarkar was addressing a party gathering in an event here at Agartala Town Hall on Tuesday organised to mark the birth anniversary of late CPI(M) leader Baidyanath Majumder.
Reacting on the BJP’s clean sweep in the three states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Sarkar said, “The BJP was not supposed to win in Madhya Pradesh, but it managed to sweep the election there in addition to other two states by taking the advantage of the inactiveness of the INDIA alliance.”
On the other hand, Manik Sarkar said, “In this juncture, we should play an active role by ensuring that our movement against the burning issues in Tripura is further strengthened in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha election. We should be more focused on highlighting the failure of the BJP government here in Tripura.”
“At a time when democracy is at stake, the economy is weakening gradually here in the state of Tripura under the rule of this BJP government. So, we need to be more focused on this and continue raising voices against it,” he said.
