Agartala, Tripura, November 21st 2023: Indus Towers and Shishu Sarothi empower students with disabilities through scholarships in the North-East Region. In a notable event, 11 students with disabilities from the state of Tripura were honored with scholarship awards as part the Saksham, the flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program of Indus Towers. The Indus Towers Scholarship Award Ceremony implemented by Shishu Sarothi was organized on 21 November 20123 in the auditorium of District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), West Tripura District in collaboration with Voluntary Health Association of Tripura (VHAT).
Demonstrating its commitment to enhance socio-economic conditions of communities, Indus Towers, now in its seventh year of partnership with Shishu Sarothi, will be offering scholarships to 180 students for the academic year 2023-24 towards Academics/ Professional and Coaching for Employment Oriented Examinations. Out of these, 162 students belong to the northeast region, while scholarships for 18 slots are reserved for students with disabilities from outside North-East region who are studying in government recognized institutions of national importance.
Ketaki Bardalai, Executive Director, Shishu Sarothi, mentioned about the educational challenges faced by children with disabilities specially in the North-East Region of India. Citing recent WHO figures, she expressed that only 9% of these children complete secondary education, and 45% remain illiterate. The Team of Shishu Sarothi expressed deep appreciation to Indus Towers for empowering youth with disabilities, recognizing the crucial role education plays in unlocking employment opportunities and fostering empowerment. Gratitude was also extended to Voluntary Health Association of Tripura (VHAT) for their invaluable support as partners and coordinators in the state of Tripura.

The Chief Guest, Achintam Kilikdar, Deputy Commissioner of the Persons with Disabilities, Govt of Tripura, commended the impact of the scholarship program since its inception in 2016, lauding its role in helping regional students build secure careers. The felicitation ceremony was followed by an induction to guide scholars on accessing the scholarship portal and other relevant information.
