India Slams Pakistan at Non-Aligned Summit: Blames False Propaganda and Misuse of Platform

Kampala, Uganda, January 17, 2024: At the ongoing Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala, India delivered a strong rebuke to Pakistan, accusing it of “blatantly misusing” the platform for “false and malicious propaganda” against India.

Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, India’s Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, addressed the 19th NAM Summit ministerial meeting and expressed India’s disappointment with Pakistan’s behavior. He stated that while India seeks to strengthen NAM, Pakistan’s actions undermine the organization’s purpose.

Mr. Singh further emphasized India’s stance on internal affairs, declaring that “any interference in India’s internal affairs is totally unacceptable and we completely reject it.”

However, the Indian minister also noted positive developments for the Global South at the summit. He praised Uganda’s assumption of the NAM presidency and its simultaneous leadership of the G-77, highlighting it as a significant moment for Africa.

Mr. Singh also reaffirmed India’s commitment to NAM’s principles of independence and multilateralism, emphasizing the importance of setting the organization’s own agenda. He commended Uganda’s focus on development priorities, human trafficking, and security issues relevant to the Global South.

Overall, the Indian minister’s address presented a two-pronged approach: criticizing Pakistan’s misuse of the platform while remaining focused on strengthening NAM’s role in supporting the Global South.
