This isn’t the first time this year the volcano has caused a stir. Back in January, another eruption forced the evacuation of nearly 4,000 people from the nearby town of Grindavik. Lava flows even reached the town’s edge, setting some houses on fire.
Experts are still studying this latest eruption, but it’s a reminder that Iceland is a land of fire and ice. While these eruptions can be disruptive, they’re also a powerful force of nature that continues to shape this amazing island.
