Dharmanagar, January 08, 2024: After eluding authorities for nearly two decades, Bittu Das, a man accused in a 2005 gang rape case in Kailashahar, Tripura, was finally apprehended on Monday. The 34-year-old’s capture brings him one step closer to facing justice for a crime that has haunted the victim and the community for years.
Das, reportedly employing evasive tactics to avoid capture, was eventually discovered at his father’s residence in Algapur, Dharmanagar. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the house and took advantage of Das’s recent mobility limitations due to leg issues. He was subsequently produced before the Kailashahar court.
This case involved three individuals. While one accused has already completed his sentence and been released, Das’s arrest leaves only one fugitive remaining. The ongoing pursuit of this final suspect underscores the authorities’ commitment to holding all perpetrators accountable, regardless of the time elapsed.
The victim and her family undoubtedly experienced immense suffering throughout the long ordeal. Das’s apprehension, while belated, offers a glimmer of hope for closure and justice.
