Gurugram, February 06, 2024: A four-year-old girl lost her life in Gurugram when a JCB involved in road widening accidentally caused a wall to collapse onto a nearby slum where the child was sleeping, according to the police.
The unfortunate event occurred in the Bengali Market area in Sector 81 around 12:30 pm while road expansion work was ongoing by the Manesar Municipal Corporation. During the digging process, the JCB collided with a wall, leading to its collapse. A section of the adjoining slum also crumbled, trapping the little girl, identified as Jasmine, in the debris.
The child’s mother was at work when the incident happened. Nearby residents managed to rescue her from the rubble, but, sadly, she had already passed away, as confirmed by the police.
Responding to the incident, an FIR (First Information Report) was filed, and the JCB driver, identified as Ram Kishore, was apprehended by the authorities. The locals, angered by the tragedy, confronted and physically assaulted the driver before handing him over to the arriving police team.
Jasmine’s family hails from Dinajpur in West Bengal, and it was her birthday on the day of the incident. The police seized the JCB involved in the mishap. Subhash Boken, a police spokesperson, stated that an FIR was registered against the driver at the Kherki Daula police station in Gurugram. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
