Hyderabad, Telangana, December 9, 2023: Former Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), successfully underwent a Total left hip replacement surgery on Friday at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad. The procedure was performed by a team of senior orthopaedic surgeons and medical professionals following a fall and a fracture experienced by Rao on Thursday.
In a health bulletin released on Friday night, Yashoda Hospital stated, “Rao has undergone the planned operation of left Total Hip Replacement.” The bulletin further noted that he “tolerated the surgery well and was stable haemodynamically throughout the procedure.”
Following the surgery, Rao has been moved to a room for recuperation, and his recovery is expected to take the usual course of six to eight weeks. The hospital reported that he is receiving routine post-operative care, including IV fluids, prophylactic antibiotics, and pain medication. The plan for ambulation, physiotherapy, and nutrition will be designed based on an assessment on Saturday.
BRS leader Dasoju Srravan expressed optimism about Rao’s recovery, stating, “He is absolutely fine, and we are hopeful that he will be discharged in three days,” according to news agency PTI.
The 69-year-old leader, who resigned as chief minister on December 3 following his party’s defeat in the recent assembly election, had been residing at his farmhouse near Hyderabad and engaging with party leaders and the public. The incident occurred on Thursday night when he had a slip and fall in his bathroom, leading to a left hip fracture that required immediate medical attention.
His son and BRS leader KT Rama Rao had earlier stated, “On evaluation, including CT scans, he was found to have left Hip fracture [Intracapsular Neck of femur fracture]. He would require left hip replacement for the same, and the usual course of recovery for such cases is expected to be six to eight weeks.”
Various political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister and State BJP President G Kishan Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, and others, have expressed their concern over Rao’s injury and conveyed their wishes for his speedy recovery.
