Farmer Denied Entry to Bengaluru Metro Sparks Outrage, Security Supervisor Dismissed

Bengaluru, February 26: A farmer in Bengaluru was recently denied entry to the Namma Metro due to his clothing being deemed “unsuitable” by security personnel. This incident sparked widespread criticism on social media, leading to the dismissal of a security supervisor.

The farmer, wearing a white shirt and carrying a bundle of clothes, was stopped at the Rajajinagar metro station security checkpoint despite possessing a valid ticket. A video of the incident, which has gone viral, shows the Hindi-speaking farmer standing at the security checkpoint and a commuter, Karthik C Airani, questioning the staff about preventing the man from entering.

Airani and another individual argued that the farmer posed no security risk and his belongings, simply clothes, did not violate any rules of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). Following this intervention, the farmer was allowed to board the metro.

The BMRCL, acknowledging the incident, expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the farmer and reaffirmed the Namma Metro’s commitment to inclusivity. “Namma Metro is an inclusive public transport. The Rajajinagar incident was investigated and the services of the security supervisor have been terminated. BMRCL regrets the inconvenience caused to the passenger,” stated the BMRCL in a post on a social media platform.
