Delhi Shivers: Bonfires Blaze as Flights Delayed in Foggy Grip

New Delhi, February 11, 2024: Shivering residents huddled around bonfires on Sunday morning as chilly weather continued to grip the national capital. The minimum temperature plunged to 7°C, making it bone-chillingly cold for Delhiites.

Dense fog, a frequent companion of Delhi’s winter, caused havoc at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Several flights were delayed, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated. Delhi Airport issued an advisory warning airlines that planes not equipped for low-visibility landings (CAT III compliant) might be affected.

While the maximum temperature is expected to climb to 25°C in the next two days, some relief from the cold, the respite may be short-lived. The Met Department predicts light rainfall across Central India from February 10-12 and East India from February 12-14.

Last week, Delhi and North India were under the grip of a severe cold wave and dense fog, leading to significant travel disruptions. Trains, flights, and even road transportation were affected, causing inconvenience and delays for many.

As Delhi braces for more winter woes, residents are advised to stay warm by layering clothes, drinking hot beverages, and avoiding venturing out unnecessarily during fog-laden mornings. Keeping an eye on weather updates and flight notifications is also crucial for those traveling during this time.
