Agartala, Jan 06: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha outlined an ambitious vision for enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services across the state while addressing the lamp lighting and oath-taking ceremony for the second batch of Agartala Government Nursing College students at the IGM Hospital Complex on Monday.
In a bid to prioritize healthcare, Dr. Saha announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art health hub in Tripura, signaling a transformative step toward better medical services. “The state government is working tirelessly to strengthen healthcare facilities. Nurses, as vital pillars of the healthcare system, must not only provide quality care but also build compassionate relationships with patients and their families,” he emphasized.
Healthcare Reforms on a Mission Mode
Highlighting the government’s commitment to reforming the healthcare sector, Dr. Saha, who also serves as the state’s Health Minister, inaugurated an advanced IT lab at the Agartala Government Nursing College. The facility aims to modernize medical education, equipping nursing students with cutting-edge digital tools and resources.
Drawing inspiration from Florence Nightingale, the Chief Minister stressed the values of service and dedication integral to the nursing profession. “Florence Nightingale revolutionized nursing, making it a vocation rooted in service and care. Her unwavering dedication during the Crimean War remains an inspiration for the nursing community worldwide,” he remarked.
Focus on Nursing Excellence
Dr. Saha underscored the critical role of nurses in shaping the reputation of healthcare institutions. “Nurses, alongside doctors, are the backbone of any hospital. Through dedicated service, they can elevate an institution’s standing and ensure trust among patients,” he noted. Urging students to uphold the ideals of Florence Nightingale, he added, “Every word of the oath you took today carries a profound responsibility. Fulfill your duties with sincerity and dedication to make a lasting impact.”
Expanding Opportunities in Medical Education
Showcasing the strides made in medical education, Dr. Saha shared encouraging statistics. This year, 49 students have joined the nursing institution, compared to 48 last year. “Once, securing a B.Sc. Nursing seat was a monumental achievement. Today, with nearly 50 seats available annually, we are opening more doors for aspiring nurses,” he said.
He also highlighted the significant growth in MBBS seats. “Earlier, Tripura had only 5-7 medical seats. Today, we boast around 400 MBBS seats, and Tripura Medical College has applied for 50 more. Once approved, this will increase the total to 450 seats. This expansion is a game-changer, ensuring more medical professionals to meet the state’s growing healthcare needs,” he stated.
Revolutionizing Healthcare Infrastructure
The establishment of the health hub in Tripura is set to be a cornerstone of the government’s healthcare transformation agenda. With better facilities and resources, the initiative aims to make quality healthcare accessible to all sections of society.
The newly inaugurated IT lab at the Nursing College represents another leap forward, offering nursing students a platform to enhance their skills with modern technology. This aligns with the government’s broader vision to modernize healthcare education and training.
Event Graced by Dignitaries
The ceremony was attended by an array of distinguished guests, including Director of Medical Education Dr. H. P. Sharma, Principal of AGMC Professor Dr. Anup Kumar Saha, Additional Secretary of the Health Department Rajiv Dutta, Joint Director of the Health Department Dr. Souvik Debbarma, and IGM Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Debashree Debbarma.
