Agartala, April 13: In keeping with tradition, the Charak Puja was held on Saturday at the Rishi Colony of Pratapgarh, Agartala, marking the end of the Bengali calendar year.
The festival, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, involves a month of vegetarianism and spiritual discussions among the devotees.
The highlight of the Charak Puja is the display of various physical feats that symbolize penance and devotion. One such act involves walking over a bed of smoldering coals, while another includes participants performing daring stunts with hooks and rods pierced in the body.
A priest from the Puja committee shared that these rituals are performed to win the favor of Mahadeva, seeking blessings for the community for the upcoming Bengali New Year.
