January 11, 2024: In a recent development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Congress party for opting out of the upcoming Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. The Grand Old Party announced on Wednesday that its top leaders, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, would not be attending the event scheduled for January 22.
Labeling the Congress as ‘anti-Ram,’ the BJP accused the party of disrespecting Hindu sentiments by abstaining from the ceremony. The Congress, in response, referred to the event as an “RSS/BJP event” and alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP have turned the Ayodhya temple into a “political project.”
The war of words escalated when Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah endorsed the Congress high command’s decision, stating that the BJP has transformed a religious occasion into a political affair. He highlighted the reported boycott by four Shankaracharyas, who protested against the “misuse of the Ram Mandir for politics.”
In a retaliatory move, BJP leaders, including Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav, criticized Siddaramaiah’s remarks. Joshi accused the Karnataka CM of instigating actions against DK Shivakumar, while Yadav asserted that the Congress has consistently opposed the Ram Janmabhoomi and created obstacles at every step.

Karnataka BJP President CT Ravi emphasized the historical context, pointing out that even during the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple, the Congress leadership, including Jawaharlal Nehru, did not visit the site. Ravi questioned the sincerity of the Congress’s refusal, stating, “First, they were lamenting that they did not receive an invitation, and when they did, they refused to accept it.”
Adding fuel to the fire, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi brought up past instances where the Congress boycotted significant events, including the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building and the G20 Summit.

The Ram Temple inauguration, scheduled for January 22, is expected to witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and over 6,000 attendees, including celebrities and industrialists. The event marks the completion of the first phase of the Ram temple, with preparations in full swing for the historic occasion. Volunteers from the RSS and its affiliates are actively inviting people nationwide to participate in the consecration ceremony by offering prayers at their local temples.
