Ambassa, June 26: The 75th edition of the state-level Van Mahotsav was inaugurated with fervor and a renewed commitment to forest conservation at the Kulai Class XII School grounds in Ambassa. Led by State Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, the event saw the participation of MLAs from the six constituencies of Dhalai district, alongside senior officials including the Principal Conservator of Forests and the Conservator of Forests (Territorial).
Addressing a gathering of enthusiastic participants, the Conservator of Forests stressed the pivotal role of forests in maintaining ecological balance. “Merely planting trees isn’t sufficient if we only consider their role in oxygen production. The escalating impacts of global warming are directly linked to forest degradation. Forests are essential for preserving biodiversity and regulating soil moisture levels. Therefore, safeguarding our forests must be a collective priority,” he asserted.
Minister Animesh Debbarma called upon students, educators, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to actively engage in forest conservation efforts. “Van Mahotsav is more than just a tree-planting event; it’s a call to action to protect and nurture our invaluable forest resources. Humans may cultivate gardens, but forests are a natural heritage that demands our vigilant stewardship. Today’s celebration serves as a platform to raise awareness and rally public support for sustained forest conservation efforts,” he emphasized.
The event featured tree-planting ceremonies, eco-awareness drives, and educational sessions highlighting the ecological significance of preserving forests. School children enthusiastically participated in these activities, underscoring the importance of instilling environmental consciousness from a young age.
Local MLAs expressed their commitment to promoting sustainable forestry practices within their constituencies, pledging support for initiatives aimed at expanding green cover and combating deforestation. They highlighted the economic, social, and environmental benefits of robust forest conservation efforts, emphasizing the need for inclusive community participation in safeguarding natural habitats.
The 75th Van Mahotsav celebration in Ambassa not only underscored the intrinsic value of forests but also underscored the critical need for concerted efforts to mitigate climate change through sustainable environmental practices. Participants left the event inspired and motivated to champion the cause of forest conservation in their respective spheres of influence, echoing the event’s theme of “Protecting Forests, Sustaining Life.”
As the festivities concluded, Minister Animesh Debbarma expressed optimism about the impact of such initiatives, envisioning a future where communities across Tripura actively contribute to preserving the state’s rich biodiversity and ensuring a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.
