Amarnath Yatra 2024: Heightened Security Measures Due to Recent Terror Attacks

Srinagar, June 27: Unprecedented security arrangements have been implemented for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage, scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 29th, 2024. Electronic surveillance will be in place along the entire yatra route, coupled with strict access control measures.

This increased security posture comes in response to recent terror attacks in the Jammu region, including one targeting pilgrims traveling to the Shiv Khori Shrine. A senior police official stated, “We are leaving nothing to chance. Given the recent desperation of terrorists to target innocent pilgrims, we are implementing foolproof security.”

Thousands of security personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, ITBP, and other paramilitary forces have been deployed. Security measures include:

  • Aerial surveillance of the yatra area
  • Deployment of security personnel at Yatra Camps
  • Spotters to monitor for suspicious activity
  • CCTV cameras monitoring the national highway from Qazigund to Pahalgam and Baltal base camps

Traffic restrictions will also be imposed from June 28th to August 19th, 2024. The Traffic Department will issue daily advisories to inform pilgrims and tourists.

Amarnath Yatra Safety: While the Amarnath Yatra has historically been peaceful, there have been four militant attacks between 2000 and 2017, resulting in casualties. Authorities are urging pilgrims to strictly adhere to all safety instructions to ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage.
