Agartala, Nov 24: Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) together with traffic department has decided to resume eviction drive of illegal encroachments to keep the city free from traffic jam, said Mayor Dipak Majumder as he chaired a crucial meeting at the conference hall of the corporation office on Friday.Talking to the reporters in this context, the Mayor said, “Agartala Municipal Corporation has been working towards making the capital city clean, beautiful and most importantly free from traffic congestion”.In yet another initiative to ease the traffic congestion across the city, a meeting has been organized under the directions of the chief minister Dr Manik Saha, he said.
Dipak Majumder said, “Prior Durga Puja festival, the AMC took multi- prong steps to decongest the city. Illegal encroachments were evicted, specific no parking zones were marked and also steps were taken against roadside hawkers. But after the festival, similar problems have risen again and therefore discussion was held to eradicate the issue”.Talking about the steps taken in a bid to solve the problem, the Mayor said, “Eviction drives will be carried out from Monday onwards to clear the illegally encroached space across the city. However, miking and announcements will be done on behalf of the AMC before eviction as an ultimatum to the traders”.
“Illegal constructions would be brought down and encroached spaces would be vacated after serving an ultimatum to the concerned persons. This would make the city free from congestion along with ensuring beautification of the state capital”, he asserted. Speaking to the reporters, SP traffic, Manik Das said, “Clearing the roadside from the clutches of encroachers will be a great help towards dealing with the growing traffic related issues. Besides, it will be a blessing for the pedestrians”.
