Agartala, June 26: The birth anniversary of renowned Bengali writer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, revered as a literary giant, was commemorated in a grand ceremony today at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. The event was organized by the Department of Information and Culture, Tripura.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, the chief guest, emphasized the enduring influence of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s works. He highlighted the deeply patriotic themes woven into each creation, particularly his iconic song “Vande Mataram,” which continues to be a cornerstone of India’s national identity.
The event witnessed participation from several dignitaries, including Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty (Secretary, Department of Information and Culture), Subrata Chakraborty (Vice Chairman, State Level Cultural Advisory Committee), Manish Rudrapal (eminent educationist), and Bimbisar Bhattacharjee (Officer-in-Charge, Department of Information and Culture).
Bipasha Chakraborty, a student from Tripura University, delivered a captivating talk delving into the life philosophy of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. The Department of Information and Culture acknowledged her contribution.
Furthermore, a documentary showcasing Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s life and his vast literary achievements was screened for the audience. The program concluded with a vibrant cultural performance presented by artists from various cultural organizations.
Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay remains a towering figure in Bengali literature. His prolific writing career encompassed diverse genres, including novels, plays, poems, and essays. Notably, his novel “Anand Math” played a pivotal role in igniting the flames of India’s independence movement.
