Agartala, Sept 05: The infrastructure work at Maa Tripurasundari Temple in Udaipur is progressing with the goal of developing it into a global spiritual tourism center, said Tripura’s Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. Responding to the question from MLA Nayan Sarkar in the state assembly during the monsoon session on Thursday, Chowdhury shared that Rs. 25.26 crore has been provided by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, over the last three financial years under the PRASAD scheme for tourism development in the state. The minister expressed hope that the temple’s infrastructure project will be completed within the current financial year.
Minister Chowdhury also highlighted ongoing work at various new tourism sites. The Surmacherra Waterfalls project in Kamalpur subdivision is nearing completion, and development efforts are advancing at Shaheed Dhananjoy Smriti Udyan in Jolaibari, the Indo-Bangla Maitree Udyan in Chottakhola, and the Buddhist Stupa in Boxanagar.
Chowdhury added that tourism infrastructure is also being enhanced with funding from the Asian Development Bank at key locations, including Chabimura, Sonamukhi in Kailashahar, the Fourteen Gods Temple, and Kasba Kali Temple. Additionally, the state is actively promoting its tourism potential at fairs and festivals in Kolkata, Delhi, Pune, Ayodhya, and Ahmedabad.
Chowdhury further emphasized that 41 modern log huts have been constructed at various tourist sites, with 10 more soon to be operational. Other completed projects include the installation of a light and sound show at Ujjayanta Palace, the construction of a helipad at Narikel Kunja, and the introduction of water scooters, floating jetties, and motorized boats at Dumbur Lake. Additionally, the State Institute of Hotel Management has been established at Anandanagar.
Under the Swadesh Darshan 1.0 project, tourism infrastructure has been developed at major sites such as Agartala, Sepahijala, Neermahal, Udaipur and Chabimura to further promote the state’s tourism potential, the minister added.
