Tripura Finance Minister tabled Rs 27,804.67 crores budget with Rs 410.69 crores deficit!
Tripura government has unveiled a comprehensive budget plan for the fiscal year 2024-25, highlighting both achievements and future goals in various developmental sectors. With a total budget allocation of Rs. 27,894.67 crores, the budget reflects a deficit of Rs. 410.69 crores. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy presented the budget on Friday outlining key priorities and allocations.
Notably, the capital expenditure is set at Rs. 6633.80 crore, marking a substantial increase of 24.26 percent compared to the previous fiscal year. The budget allocates funds strategically across various sectors, with a particular emphasis on education, skill development, and infrastructure.
Singha Roy emphasized these sectors as the primary drivers of economic progress and social upliftment. The government aims to optimize resources and implement policies that encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation, especially in the face of global challenges such as the ongoing pandemic.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha hailed the budget as pro-people and forward-looking. He noted the government’s track record of delivering tangible benefits to different segments of society and expressed optimism about the budget’s positive impact on overall welfare.
In agriculture and allied sectors, the budget earmarks over Rs. 1721.94 crores, reflecting a nearly 20 percent increase over the previous year.
Education also receives significant attention, with a substantial increase in allocations to implement the National Education Policy 2020 and enhance educational infrastructure.In addition to education and agriculture, the budget prioritizes healthcare, sports, and rural development. Investments in healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of a 200-bed Multi Care Health Unit.
Sports infrastructure development aims to nurture talent and promote a culture of fitness and well-being among citizens. The budget also emphasizes the importance of digital initiatives and international trade. The government plans to leverage technology to enhance governance and service delivery while fostering trade partnerships, particularly with neighboring Bangladesh.
Regarding Tripura’s debt burden, the Finance Minister disclosed that it has escalated to Rs. 21,687.07 crores, up from Rs. 12,902.73 crores during the 2017-18 tenure of the erstwhile Left Front government.Despite this increase, he highlighted the state’s commendable growth in annual Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), reaching Rs. 74,100 crores last year compared to Rs. 43,716 crores in 2017-18.In a significant move, the central government released an additional tax devolution, amounting to Rs 1,006 crore for the state of Tripura.The announcement has been met with appreciation from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who acknowledges the funding’s potential to boost infrastructure and expand the scope of welfare schemes in the state.
“I thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji & Hon’ble Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman Ji for releasing another additional installment of Tax Devolution of Rs 1006 crore to Tripura.It will help us in further strengthening infrastructure and expanding the scope and reach of welfare schemes,” Tripura CM stated in a post on X.
