Southern States Protest Against Central Government Funding

India, February 08, 2024: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka are upset with the national government (BJP-led Centre) for how it distributes money to states. They say they aren’t getting their fair share, and they’re planning protests in Delhi to show their anger.

Kerala’s leader, Pinarayi Vijayan, will lead a big protest with his ministers and lawmakers. Tamil Nadu’s leader, MK Stalin, will also join in with his party members, all wearing black shirts. They’ll both be in Delhi on Thursday.

Both states say the central government isn’t giving them enough money for things like flood relief and development projects. They also feel they aren’t getting a fair share of taxes collected by the national government.

Karnataka already protested on Wednesday. Their leader, Siddaramaiah, says the southern states are being treated unfairly when it comes to money.

These protests are part of a bigger fight over how much power and money the national government should have compared to individual states. It’s a complex issue, but these southern states are making their voices heard loud and clear.
