Ukraine Faces Night of Attacks: Urgent Air Defense Boost as Russia Strikes!

Ukraine, January 13, 2024: In a series of overnight assaults, Russia conducted numerous attacks on Ukraine, with Ukrainian air force authorities reporting a total of 40 enemy air attack incidents on Saturday. The air force successfully intercepted and destroyed eight missiles, while Ukraine continues to push for bolstering its air defense capabilities.

The attacks employed a diverse array of weapons, including cruise, ballistic, and anti-aircraft missiles, along with drones, according to Ukraine’s air force. More than 20 devices failed to reach their intended targets, thanks to “active measures by means of electronic warfare,” as explained by spokesperson Yuri Ignat. These measures involved tactics such as detonation in the air, falling in fields, or interference through radio-electronic warfare by Ukrainian defense forces.

As of now, authorities have not reported any fatalities resulting from the attacks. However, a missile strike in the northeastern Sumy region caused injuries to one civilian and damaged 26 buildings, as confirmed by Ukraine’s prosecutor general. In the northern region of Chernigiv, Governor Vyacheslav Chaus stated that there is damage, refraining from disclosing specific locations.

In the central Poltava region, an unexploded missile landed in the backyard of a residential house. Governor Philip Pronin reported this incident, highlighting the potential dangers faced by civilians in the conflict.

The heightened threat prompted Ukraine’s neighbor, Poland, to activate air defense systems briefly. Simultaneously, Ukrainian territories close to the frontline experienced artillery attacks from Russian forces.

In southern Kherson, on the shores of the Dnipro River, Russian shelling wounded a civilian in Beryslav on Friday evening. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin stated, “A 71-year-old woman was found under the rubble of an apartment building” and is currently receiving medical assistance.

The situation remains tense, with Ukrainian authorities actively working to defend against the escalating attacks, while international concerns grow over the potential humanitarian impact of the conflict.
