January 11, 2024: India’s Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, believes China’s perception of India has changed significantly since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. Speaking at a community event in London, Singh cited a recent article in the Chinese state-controlled newspaper Global Times as evidence of this shift.
The Global Times article praised India’s economic growth, foreign policy, and proactive approach to international relations. It even acknowledged India’s rising global stature and strategic confidence. This, according to Singh, demonstrates that China has “come to accept” India’s emergence as a key global player.
Singh specifically attributed this change to the bravery displayed by Indian soldiers during the Galwan Valley standoff. He emphasized that India is no longer perceived as a weak nation by the world. “No one can scare us and get away with it,” he declared.
Despite the current strain in Indo-China relations, Singh reiterated India’s commitment to peaceful relations with all its neighbors and countries around the world. However, he also asserted that India cannot be ignored on the global stage, a fact that even the Chinese government, “whether they like it or not,” has seemingly acknowledged.
