BJP Leader Shehzad Poonawalla Takes a Dig at Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu Over Old Tweets Amid Ongoing Income Tax Raid

New Delhi, December 10, 2023: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shehzad Poonawalla took a pointed swipe at Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu on Sunday as old tweets criticizing demonetization resurfaced amid an ongoing Income Tax raid on properties linked to the Congress leader. The raid, which commenced on December 6 and was ongoing at the time of this report, has resulted in the seizure of more than Rs 290 crore.

In a social media post, Poonawalla shared Sahu’s previous tweets opposing demonetization and commented, “Oh, now one can understand why Dheeraj Sahu and Congress were opposing demonetization so much.” He further dubbed the Congress as a “corrupt shop” and accused the party of being involved in dishonest practices, stating, “Corruption Ki Dukan me Beimani Ka Saaman” (a dig at Congress, calling the party corrupt).

Poonawalla posed a rhetorical question, hinting at the magnitude of corruption, stating, “If one MP has Rs 500 crore, how much do 52 MPs have?”—referring to the Lok Sabha strength of the Congress. He concluded the post with a scathing remark, declaring, “Congress = Ghotale ki guarantee” (Congress is equal to a guarantee of corruption).

The ongoing Income Tax raid on properties linked to Dheeraj Sahu has garnered attention as cash amounting to more than Rs 290 crore has been recovered from various locations in Odisha and Jharkhand. The counting process involved the deployment of a significant number of officials, along with numerous cash-counting machines, to expedite the assessment of the seized funds.

Initially, over 30 officers and bank staff were engaged in the counting process. However, due to the substantial quantity of cash remaining for counting, additional cash-counting machines and manpower were brought in to accelerate the process.

The developments in the Income Tax raid on Dheeraj Sahu’s properties have added another layer to the ongoing political discourse, with Poonawalla’s social media post reflecting the heightened tensions between political rivals in the wake of the significant cash recovery.
